The Spanish Group of Philosophy of Education invites papers to be submitted at the VIII International Conference on Philosophy of Education, to be held on September 21-23, 2016, in Valencia (Spain).
The main theme of the Conference is Education and capacities: toward a new human development. The program aims to offer a platform for reflection upon the human and educational consequences of the concept of “capacity” as defined by M. Nussbaum and A. Sen. We wish to explore the centrality of capacities in the cultivation of human dignity, so not only from an economic and social perspective. We also wish to consider how we might construct a general framework for understanding and nurturing wellbeing, taking into account the pressing need to support tolerance and democracy during this time of political, cultural and epistemic insecurity.
The Conference will have five main panels on the following subjects:
a) Epistemology of Capacities
b) Politics and Ethics of Capacities at present times
c) Capacity building as a practical theory of development
d) Ethics, professions and the development of capacities
e) Good practices in the development of capacities
The official language of the Conference is Spanish. One of the keynote addresses will be given in English by Prof. James Conroy. It will be possible to organize paper sessions in other languages.
